We have called the vet and he is coming, but she is going down hill so fast. My DH went out to feed about an hour ago and found our little 3 day old heifer calf laying down very lethargic, and when he tried to move her, her back legs went spastic. The leg on top starts rolling backwards almost...
Thanks. I can even pick the calves up. After Bridger was born, the other cow's were out there bugging on him. He was getting so confused as to who his mom was. He was trying to nurse off of everyone. It was getting really annoying, so I just picked him up from the back of the field and...
Here are today's pictures of our 3 calves we have so far.
Miss Meg - She is such a naughty little thing. She was slow to start but she is making up for it double time. She is giving her mom grief. She runs all over the place and Spruce just runs behind her mooing. I can just imagine her...
We woke up this morning to find that Antero had delivered her calf during the night. She had a little black bull calf. He appears to be doing really well.
Thanks!! We really are blessed to have gotten him. He is somewhat rare. He is one of the only Red, Polled, Short-Legged, Chondroplaysia Free Bulls there are. He is one of the smaller ones also. He is almost 3 and we have not measured him since he was 2, but at the age of 2 he was 37" tall...
He is a feisty little thing. Our farm name is Magic Hills Farm, so I think we are going to go with names of Mountains / Hill's. So if you can think of anything along those lines that would be great!
We woke up to Meg mooing this morning. We have kept her in the house the last 2 nights in a playpen. DH made her a bottle and she drank the whole thing. We took her out to her mom and looked what happened.
I am SO EXCITED!!!!!! I didn't think this would happen. I really thought we were...
Yes, Tighe is Meg's sire. He is the daddy to all our calf's this year. We are going to milk them this year. We only had Impatients last year, bought the rest of them last August. When she calved last year, we tried to milk her, but she really is lacking on bag size and it just didn't work...
I thought I would post pic's of the rest of our Dexter's. They are such great cows!!
Mayflower -
Impatients -
Sydney -
Antero-
Jewel- our yearling heifer
Tighe- our Bull
I still need to get a picture of Spruce. She looks just like Sydney, it's hard to tell them apart...
She really hasn't had any mom's milk yet. We have been giving her powdered colostrum. We are picking up a milking machine tomorrow and hopefully we will be able to milk Spruce and feed her that. So she will probably get milk replacer today and tomorrow morning and then hopefully we can get...
She did drink a little bit from the bottle, but got uninterested really fast, so we ended up tubing her. DH has to be at work all day today, and we were worried if I would be able to get her to bottle feed enough. She is getting stronger. She fought us today when we tubed her. A very Good...
She had a good night. She was nice and warm and cozy in her playpen in our familyroom. LOL. DH was just sticking his finger in her mouth and she did start sucking a little. We are making her a bottle of colostrum right now to see if we can get her to drink from a bottle. We are going tomorrow...
The vet came and helped us tube feed her. He also gave her an injection of antibiotics. He said that he thinks she will be just fine. Just a slow starter. We have her in the house tonight in the playpen. Hopefully, she will be much better tomorrow. We have one unhappy momma though. She is...
