It’s called jugging. A small pen for mom and baby gives them time to bond, makes the mom feel more secure and provides you opportunity to feed her the extra she may need. She is very protective and nervous right now. Put her in a small pen so she can feel safe.
Feed is so darned expensive now, just like everything else. How many cattle and how many acres do you have? Is it possible to raise your own corn? If raising a couple of steers for slaughter, you can grass raise them, then finish them with corn the last 8 weeks before slaughter.
I don’t have to prove animal units. I just filled out the agricultural exemption and claimed sheep. This place was already under ag exemption, so it’s just a continuation. Otherwise it’s a 5 year wait from filing until the ag exemption kicks in.
All you need is a few litters of pigs. 😃
Son is in off a job. He starts another one December 1. It’s in Iraan, Texas. It’s on a wind farm out in West Texas about 500 miles from here. He’ll be gone 4 months.
Yesterday afternoon he came over and started cleaning up my back field. He’s got that 100 HP Kubota tractor and had it plumbed...
Coffee is making. Son is in from a job, starts a new one in Iraan, out in west Texas. Almost 500 miles, 8-9 hour drive. It is on a wind farm and he’ll be gone 4 months. Yesterday afternoon he came over and started mowing and cleaning up my back field.
I finally gave the poor little guy a bottle. I held Granny today and he sucked but his tummy was not fat and full. .She wasn’t letting her milk down. I gave him 3 bottles of 4 ounces each this late afternoon to 5:00. Finally his tummy was full.
Frimplepants and her twins. GOOD MOM!
Granny and her twins. BAD MOM!
I’ll be outside shortly after daylight to tie Granny up so the ram lamb can eat. I’ll let her loose for breakfast then tie her up again. She is stout! It’s a fight, I don’t see this ending in my favor.
I have decided to stay on the tie her routine for a week or two. If she doesn’t accept the lamb, I’m going to put him on Craigslist as a bottle baby. I’ll bottle feed him to get him started.
