I'm going to be drawing my own blood in a couple weeks to send to biotracking for pregnancy/CAE tests. I have just 2 does. I've never drawn blood before, and finding the jugular vein makes me a bit nervous. I really can't afford to have the vet do it just now, and she's an hour away, so I need...
I received my order of 2 single CIDR inserts with 1 applicator (and PG600) from Pipestone Vet Supply today. I have 2 does and a borrowed buck from 3 hours away .
The oldest doe (18 mo) is the one to be bred. She's never cycled, not even with the buck, who has been here 2 weeks.
I inserted...
To revive an old thread... I just ordered from PipeCreek Vet supply (pipevet.com) and was able to get the CIDRs singly for 4.85 each, I believe. I also got the smaller of the two bottles of PG 600 for around $30 usd. It has twenty doses. I'm only using it on two does. The shipping was 5.95 per...
I brought home a borrowed buck a week ago now to breed to my ND doe of 18 months. She's never had a cycle thus far but checks out as healthy, without having measured hormone levels. So far, the pair are "just friends", and there is no sign of heat coming on. There are no other goats near them...
Hi, I just found the updated version of BYH yesterday after months of not visiting. I added an profile pic and it's upside down! That happened every time I tried to add one. Is there a way to fix it?
I need a well-sealed bag of stinky buck rags to get my junior doe to go into heat before I borrow my chosen buck, who is a 2 hour drive away. I'm in Southwestern PA Does anyone in the adjoining states care to mail me a ziploc with a buck rag, please? I'll pay for shipping & (gloved)handling...
My doe is a year and a half old and has not yet ever come into season, which my breeder says isn't abnormal. She thinks she won't come into season without smelling a buck. NDs aren't seasonal breeders, so a heat can be induced any time.
Thanks, I have a friend who is mailing me a "bucky" tpwel in ziplocs for the purpose of getting her to go into heat, and I will board the doeling with the breeder, in her doe barn, or bring her in the house in the worst case scenario.
I just want to keep the herd as close to "closed" as I can, and I know the breeder's lines a bit, and her buck has a good dairy pedigree . I also have a really fuel efficient diesel station wagon which, yes, can transport goats. Whether or not I'll survive the drive back with a billy in rut...
The breeder is nearly 3 hours' drive away from me, otherwise I would like to do a driveway breeding. She needs a bucky smell to put her into heat first, also. That's goidto know about the buck smell, though. The breeder would much rather I borrow her buck, so I think I'll go that route. Would...
I'm going to be borrowing a buck to breed my ND junior doe, now 18 mo. old. I have a semisuburban neighborhood & have the older doe and a doeling of 6 months. I'm borrowing a registered buck from the breeder I got my does from, in a couple weeks. My first question to soneonne whos has borrowed...
I've had my two ND does for 4 1/2 months now, and when I got them I boughr my first bag of goat sweet feed in a 50 lb bag. I keep the grain inside the kaibdrybroom in an "airtight" insect-resistaby container. It's Purina Noble Goat feed & it has molasses in it. They go through about 5 lbs a...
Hi Catahoula, yes, it is a small world. I recently moved East from outside of Boulder CO, where I lived near (a) Coal Creek, and before that, Salida CO. I'll have to look up your area.
Thanks Goatherd, I'll ask for Dr Nadarajah when I go.
Thanks Goatherd, that's good to know. Kittanning is close enough to me (half an hour) to make that worthwhile. I'll take my doe for a checkup after she's been bred so I can meet the staff.
Thanks, Thorny Ridgell, should visit more vveteran goat owners too, I know. My breeder is two hours' drive.
The mats I chose & installed are recycled rubber (not vulcanized). They interlock tightly. They are wall-to wall over pressure treated wood. Its a paltform deck base on a hillside. The wood gets some ventilation on 3/4 of the bottom. I've has them in it a month now, with barn lime & horse...
I've been a goat owner for over a month now and I still don't have a nearby vet! The 2 does seem realky healthy, but should something change, I can't drive 2 hours north necesssrily.
Anyone know of a vet in Western PA in Allegheny or nearby counties? I'm near Butler & Beaver counties as well.
Their barn is board n batten. I justbgot the battens on today. They are irresistible. The walls are 6" dog eared fence planks. The battens are 2" ripped ones. All is stained grey. They have every kind of tree except pine for forage herre. Beech, Birch, Silver Maple, Hemlock, Fir, HIckory. They...
