:love:love Congratulations on 2 beautiful Jersey heifers. Do you have a Jersey Bull or are they a cross? To bad you didn't submit these for the calender. Too cute!
Here is my experience with burning and paste. :barnie
2 years ago I had the vet de-horn a 2 week old bull. His nubs were little and a 6 month old heifer with horns 2" long. He numbed them up but that in itself was very painful and it seemed like it took forever with so many needle pokes. He...
There are so many amazing pictures may I suggest having some months with a collage of 2 or three pictures in the same month or make a 18 month calender. That way you can choose more than 12 pictures. :)
She is adorable :love How about calling her "Socks" I assume that is white fur on her feet. So cute. "Ellie May" was one tough beautiful girl on the Beverly Hillbillies. I hope you have many wonderful years with your girl. Let us know what you name her. :)
I have been milking by hand for years. It only takes me about 8 minutes to milk 2.5 gallons. I love my Jersey's. Milking time is very relaxing. I love to feel the warmth radiate from the cow, hear the milk hit the pail and listen to her chew her grain and then belch. :gig That lets me know...
You could get the medium kongs. There are blue, red, black and purple. It could be a fashion statement. :frow Gorilla glue will keep them on. I bought the x-treme and they were much to big. The medium seem to be a nice size. It will protect you and the other cows from the horns.
Lisa she is beautiful. :love You could always gorilla glue kongs on her horns IF they become a problem. You have done a wonderful job with her and you should be very proud. :thumbsup
Thanks for sharing. I haven't had problems yet, but they are young and I know it could change. I really enjoy watching them graze/eat. I find it relaxing just to watch them and would rather do that than go to a movie. :)
77Herford do you think Tank wanted to watch you eat for a change. :lau Do...
77Herford How old is the oldest bull you ever kept. When do they usually stop growing. My 2 year old seems to have slowed down significantly. I hope he won't get much bigger.
These are all such good pictures I would hate to be a judge :idunno I am new here with only a few posts. I am still finding my way around this forum and have some pretty good cow pictures. It may not be right to submit my pictures this year since I am new? Let me know if it is ok with you. Thanks
I know never to trust or turn my back on a bull. I have read many stories about bull accidents and ways to prevent them. People usually post when there are problems or issues. I want to read some good stories about bulls and what people have done to keep them relatively manageable. I did read...
How long will he be fertile after the burdizzo and will his "man purse" eventually fall off or shrivel and stay with him forever. It is close to the size of a boxer's punching bag. :ep
Once the testosterone is out of his system could he STILL become aggressive when a cow is in heat?
Kim, Did you castrate your bull? If so what method and how is he now. I have a 3 year old I want to keep. He is not mean yet and I want to keep it that way. I'm hoping to hear from others who have already castrated mature bulls and how it has affected their personalities. Any one who can chime...
farmerlor, I am going through the same thing. I love my boy dearly. My vet said after I breed the cow, he could then castrate him if I want to keep him as a pet. A calistrate or california type bander can be used on mature bulls. They are much different than the bander with the little green bands.
