The LaMancha is 77 lbs today, the Nubian is 72, give or take a lb or 2 due to struggling.
The LaMancha still looks bony to me in her hips/butt but she's a beast everywhere else.
It's been 7 weeks (time flies when you're having fun) and each goat has put on 15 pounds. They are up to 50 (Nubian) and 55 (LaMancha).
So... now would you change anything? Or is that the right rate? Someone above said 12-15 lbs a month, another said 10.
It's been 10 days, and while they've been consuming the mineral protein block, it's not at a terribly high rate. The block is falling apart in the humidity here more than it's being eaten.
Caramel enjoyed sudsy water on Sunday from the duck bowl that was soaking. She also tried to eat a piece...
Overrun with poultry here but I am not too concerned about them eating rice in moderation. My goats even have their own banty rooster that lives in their barn (and only eats goat food - hope he's not mineral deficient ). He got picked on by the other roosters and moved himself to the goat...
The larger lick was "behind the counter" so you may want to ask at your feed store. All they had on the shelf was a Billy Block. I did lick the SweetLix myself (before the goats did) and it's not bad, palate-wise. I was worried that it was going to be incredibly salty but it's more crumbly than...
Thank you for the links! In my garage/basement sweep for something suitable I found a triangle shaped piece of wood that I had originally made as a small call duck shelter, but the call ducks hated it and besides a few cobwebs it was pristine. A few long deck screws later and it's in the wall...
Please, disagree with me! That's why I'm here, for another opinion.
I was thinking the Balancer was the same because you use 3x as much as a top dressing (and the label is not exactly clear as to what a serving is! And that makes it really hard to compare), but upon closer inspection, you are...
I, personally, wouldn't get pets with horns. And you would need to have him castrated ASAP.
If it were me, I'd go meet the mom and see if I wanted her. If she acts really bad, I would probably pass on her, too. You don't want unfriendly goats.
I don't like loose minerals (it gets crusty in our humidity and then they don't eat it, or at least the last batch of goats I had wouldn't) so I use the Manna Pro Goat Balancer, which is the same thing but in pellet form and I put it in with their grain daily. She's right on the cusp of 50 lbs...
I'll add some info as well. Do not buy goats on a whim. Visit with farms and LISTEN. I got nubians not realizing that their screams were baseline noise level. Some are bigger screamers than others within breed.
As far as fencing, I have full sized goats and a 4 foot panel style fence works...
I let my goats out of their area when I'm outside doing the farm chores. They enjoy getting to run around like crazy and getting to browse on everything that they stare at all day and can't reach from their pen.
Once a week I do an intensive scrub on the feeders and waterers on the farm...
For those of you looking for the body condition score:

I need to go out and feel their sternums, but I think they're somewhere between 2 and 3 which is the low end of healthy.
Thank you.
Thank you. I was looking for an opinion and I really appreciate your input. They are very active and alert, appear healthy, if a bit skinnyish.
Looking back at photos, when I first got her though, I don't see much of a difference.
I have had them since the first week in June. I will weigh them again in a few weeks to be sure they're gaining.
I did worm them (and repeated in 14 days) when I first got them with albendazole. I am fairly certain the nubian had worms, as I know a member of her flock that was sold had a...
I currently have two young doelings... one's Nubian and the other is a LaMancha/Oberhasli cross. They are 4 months old, give or take a week or two.
I weighed them this morning on the bathroom scale. The Nubian weighs about 35 pounds, the LaMancha about 40 pounds, give or take a pound or two -...
It's okay. You didn't know.
Now that Amos has been gone 3 days I'm sad and realize I miss him. I've been trying to find a doeling to get and then bring Amos back. I never paid for my goats originally (but a free goat isn't exactly FREE... you all know that!) but I am absolutely shocked that a...
