Good News.. No I don't need the rendering truck.. I'm pretty good at figuring things out... I was able to follow a few simple directions, run the tube just past the back of her tongue and pour a little at a time allowing her to swallow.. If Ole Tymers can figure it out so can I :D
If the cow is...
I don't have the money for a vet right now and I need to learn... I just talked to the local Animal Husbandry pro and he told me to use dextrose, cmpk and propolene (how ever that's spelled).
We are going to drench her.. It's supposed to be fast acting.
My only concern is getting the tube...
Hi,
I'm pretty sure my Jersey has Ketosis... She has all the signs and her milk smelled spicy like cinnamon the other day. What is the best treatment and how is it administered.. I don't think I can do an IV and can't afford a vet...
By the way is Ketosis deadly??
Thank You so much
Thank you for the info. We are signed up to do a share program and did a little of that before we let her dry off to have the calf. (we bought her bred)
This is our first go round with farming, so we're trying to do everything right.. Although I don't think we've done a single thing right...
Great!! We are going to be milking her so we will get started this eve. ( wont drink it until colostrum is gone though)
I'll be sure to leave some for the calf and I have local farmers wanting to buy the colostrum!...
If we are milking twice a day how many hours do we keep the calf off her...
Hi Guys...
Our Jersey had her calf today!! How soon do I milk her after the birth and how long until the milk is free from colostrum and connsumable?
I know I've seen this question before but can't remember the answer... The last time we let the calf take all the milk because she our cow got...
Our new calf has been pretty wild since the day she was born.
We let her run loose with her mother and that's most likely the problem.
(mother is a very tame milk cow). Should I seperate them to calm her down? Or will she tame down on her own?
how does the cold weather effect milk production. We've had a decrease since she was sick, and it came back after we treated her but it's not as much... Do you think the cold weather is also a factor?
Mine does have mastitis ontop of the just freshened and swollen udder. My husband noticed it when he was trying to milk her out.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I can't keep up....
The good news for the day is the Jersey that was acting sick is back to her normal self again!!.. Do you pro's. think the 96...
JoJo is getting better slowly.. She is still acting sluggish and still making the grunt sound but not as much.... I got almost 2 gallons of milk this morning, so it looks like her milk is coming back... She does seem to be doing better...
The vet has many years experience with cattle so I...
Had to call the vet.. He says he does not think its hardware.. It's most likely respitory... She's getting some antibiotics and we'll see how she's doing in the morning
Took her temp and it's normal...
Some things that could be affecting her.. We took her off alpha hay and put her on timothy and orchard hay about 5 days ago.. Also we are feeding her a lower protien grain because they are out of our mix. she has been on this grain before and it never effected...
she's been milking since July. I don't notice any smell on her or in the milk...
This started yesterday... She didn't want to come to the barn. Then this morning when I went out to feed, she ate the hay and would not eat the grain.
Her manure looks ok, just not as much as usual... her milk smells fine and I don't see any signs of mastitis...
She does kind of have her back arched up...
Ok.. I think this is more serious... I just tried to milk her.
She normaly makes about 2 gallons each morning.. I bareley got a gallon... She is also making a kind of grunting pig sound when she moves
I'm afraid it may be hardware disease...
I think that most of the placenta has passed.. She still has a little bit hanging out... The calf is doing great... !!.. I am not bottle feeding her, just letting momma take care of her...
Still no glove.. But momma seems fine
Since my other cow had her calf the other day my Jersey has been acting strange. She doesn't eat like normal, doesn't moo like normal and acts like she's just out of energy.. I think she's depressed!..
It all started when she saw us milking the new mother... She got mad and tried to move the...
