I'm curious if 16ga wire is OK to use for floor wire as its $50 a roll cheaper for a 100' roll than 14ga

What size of cages and size of bunnies? For bigger bunnies and Larger cages (wider or deeper than 24" ) I would get the heavier wire.

I was thinkn about building 30x30 stacking cages & I have californians & new zealands so I should probably go with the heavier gauge then huh... is there a better place than bass equipment to buy the wire that you know of?

I haven't bought wire to make cages yet. Only premade stackersBut when we do I will probably get some from kd cages out of New Castle, ind. They will deliver to shows I attend. Even if you don't show you might see which cage supplier attends a local show then you could meet them, see the wire they use as they bring some cages. Bass is good from what I have heard.

I strongly recommend the heavier gauge wire. I built 24" x 48" cages for my four American Chinchilla rabbits in September. In February, the welds on the floor wires started to fail. The only wire my local farm store carried was the 16 gauge so that is what I used. Now, I have to go back and remove all the J clips and replace the floors on all four of the cages.

The problem I'm having is finding a place to buy the good quality floor wire. Klubertanz Equipment is the place I've found so far that carries the heavier wire of good quality. Shipping costs are going to kill me! I'm going to check Bass Equipment maybe I can save a little on the shipping or find a way to pick it up from a show.

Thanks for posting this question. I'm struggling with this issue right now and could perhaps save someone else the work and expense of replacing the floors of their cages.

Thanks that really helps me with my decision to go with the heavier wire

Heavier is almost always better.

100 feet of 1x½ floor wire will make a lot of cages. I think you'll get 39 out of that. You can use the 16ga 1x2 for sides and top.

Perhaps you could get a half roll of the floor wire and make enough cages.
