I got some of my winter forage planted, but was waiting for cool weather and some more rain to plant the bigger pasture. I've always waited till a week before Thanksgiving to plant the bigger area, as it "traditionally' rains that week. That was a mistake this year. Everyone is out of seed now, partly due to all the deer hunters having to plant food plots because of the neverending drought. I guess it's going to be an expensive winter cow wise. Bad enough having to pay $30+ a sack for the seed, now going to have to buy more hay. :(

Oh well--I always heard you aren't a real Texan till you've lost your butt in either the oil or cow business--or both.

I don't know if I should be laughing or crying for you right now. But I am sorry for the drought in Texas and for all you farmers having to go through all of that.

Wish I could send you some of our extra rain. We are set to get a downpour tomorrow.

I don't know why they aren't collecting it and shipping it. They got all these truck drivers that need work. I'm sure they would glad to assist. The reservoirs around here are at full capacity to overflowing.

Oh well, thinking logical again. Can't have that. :/

It's forecast to rain today, (and hail, and wind like the dickens) which is why I was going to get some more rye to plant--yesterday. Sprinkling already. I've seen past consecutive years here, that I could have grown rice, it rained so much. Now--dust.

I really want to try winter wheat one year, but I'd have to drive to North Texas to get it. As sure as I did tho, we wouldn't have a winter at all that year. Sometimes, I wisht I wuz just an old city boy, obliviously sitting in a cubicle somewhere--but not very often. It would please my city girl wife tho--she likes concrete under her feet. She 'will' (begrudgingly) feed the cows for me if I'm busy, but gawd what a price I pay if she happens to step in something squishy and smelly. (I'd trade her in for a younger model but heck--that's how i got her.)

We had a heck of a rainstorm this morning over here in our part of Texas. It rained so hard the barn flooded AGAIN. But of course, now it won't rain again for days. I hope the grass grows a might. Good luck on the grass!
