One of my new doelings has a few spots on her that feel like mosquito bites. She will be 3 months old on August 1. In addition to the spots that feel like little bumps/mosquito bites she has a few areas where she appears to be losing fur. These do not correlate with the bumps.

She's acting/eating/drinking/pooping/etc. just fine. She also comes from a herd tested and free/normal of CAE/CL/G6S. I only have two doelings, both from this healthy herd.

I'll post pics here in a little bit. Until then, thoughts? TIA!

Are they vaccination sites? My goats had lumps for quite a while after I gave them vaccinations (until I learned to give them in the armpit area and rub rub rub).

As for the balding spots - she might have mites or lice....do you see any buggers running around? Is it hot where you are? Someone's goat got hot spots like dogs do. My doe once lost hair on both sides of her belly, but that was because she would squeeze under the barbed wire to get into the cow field, and the barbes pulled out her hair.

Not vaccination sites, because there are about 5 of these spots all over her body. They aren't hot spots, because when you pull her fur back, the skin looks normal...it's just a little bump.

I looked her over for bugs, and didn't see any (granted, that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't there). Oh yeah it's hot here. I'm in the low Sonoran desert. 102 is a cool day here, and it's our monsoon season this time of year...so it's humid too. We do get mosquitos in the desert...there are enough people that let their pools go green, and lots of animals around (thus lots of automatic waterers). That's why I thought they might be to blame.

What about this - Demodex Mite infestation

I was reading up on something else and came across this. If you scrool just about 1/2 way down you'll see pics of little bumps all over a goat.

Is that what it's like??

Hmmm...I suppose it's possible. It's kind of hard to tell from the picture...but the bumps on my doeling don't look funny on the outside of the skin. I would imagine a mange mite infestation would cause the skin to look abnormal.

True - however in this goat's case the only abnormality was bumps underneath the skin.

Have you wormed them at all anyway?

I haven't wormed them at all. Up until now, they have seemed to be just perfect. Nice coat, normal stool, etc.

If you have bad mosquitos now, it could very well be mosquito bites. As far as the hair loss, that could be parasites, selenium deficiency, copper deficiency and probably some other things I'm not thinking of right now. I would probably start with worming them if they are healthy otherwise.
