a couple days ago I had a 2 week old ram lamb come up lame in the rear leg. so I seperated him and Mom and have been watching close today he was using the leg but very stiff legged and almost like he's constipated. My intial thought was that he was injured but there is no swelling. Any ideas?
Ewes are on grass hay and corn and have minerals out for them. Ewe seems a bit thin but expected that after the harsh winter.

i hope so, he seems better this afternoon not so hunched up. I'm trying not to mess with him too much as it just stress them both out.

Whenever I have a limper, my last one was about a year ago, I catch them to check their feet and legs for any swellings. Usually there is none and I just leave them be for a couple days and they get better on their own.

I entirely agree with SheepGirl.....lambs' play is VERY rough. There is almost always one lamb limping in a field of lambs, usually more.

I have had one little girl with joint ill this year, though. The picture is very different, though. This little girl was limping on a right hip, right knee and hoof suddenly. the joints were hot, swollen and painful on even the slightest movement. She was ill, not suckling well and shivering. Temp 104. I bought her indoors with her mum and gave her Metacam and high dose Pen & Strep. Though she is not running around as yet, she is sufficiently well to be out in the field and follow mum, is suckling, temp normal and, apart from a slight limp on the front right leg is continuing to make an uneventful recovery.

I hope your lamb is soon back on her feet.
