So much drama around these little guys so far!

Anyway, one of the 3 day old twins has "gone down". She is listless, will eat some. She has been nursing. Yesterday I thought she was overheat when she acted a bit listless so I brought her in the AC and gave her fluids and she perked up and went back out with mom. Today I took her temperature and at first it was low, now it is normal.

I am giving her SQ fluids, injectable antibiotics and a nutri-cal(sugar) mixture orally. This is looking like a poor outcome ahead. Her sister is doing excellent. Any thought or ideas?

Not alot of information on her specifics but a cover-all treatment would be a B complex vitamin shot, IM, and possibly a BoSe shot,SQ. I would think maybe you should try to bottle feed her and keep her seperated from the others until you can put a finger on her exact problem. This will eliminate the potential of her being stepped on or being neglected...I hate raising bottle kids BUT in this case the extra care could go along way....

I agree with the B-complex, but I usually give it SubQ. You can't overdose with B-complex either, so if she's really down, you can give her 6ml or more and she'll just pee out whatever she doesn't use. When my little doeling was ill the B complex perked her up within an hour. Keep the electrolytes going so she doesn't get dehydrated - today especially since it's only going to get hotter.

You said she's nursing, but is she nursing a lot or a little? If it's only a little, force feeding her would be a good way to know she's getting what she needs. Is she peeing/pooping normally?

The only draw back about separating her is that she'll want to be with you the entire time she's inside. I separated my doeling, too, but she cried to high heaven when I'd leave the room. BUT - if she is listless enough where you're concerned with her safety, hearing her cry is much better than not.

:fl Good luck! :hugs

Thanks everyone. I did bring her over to the vets. They took her blood glucose--very very low. We treated her and she perked up, but I couldnt get her to eat and she was crying with a distended abdomen, so I took her back and she passed away on her way there.

They did an Xray after she passed for me, she has some pnemonia starting but also has a belly full of gas and they are not sure why. She hadnt been strong since day one. Her sister is doing well, but of course, that was the one we were going to keep.

So, I tried. Logically I know I did what I could but you always have that sick what if feeling after. :(

I'm so sorry. It sounds like you did everything you could. We never know what is going on internally with these little guys. :hugs

Sorry for your loss. :hugs We lost one of our bottle babies that was born on April 12th a week ago. After two trips to a vet that we finally found in our area. Well he was 45 minutes away. I did everything the vet told me to and after spending 3 times what we paid for the little doe and leaving the vet's office and he said she would be up and moving in two hours when she passed in two hours. It is heart breaking. This one hit me the hardest cause she was my hubby's goat. He picked her out and bottle fed her. He was looking forward to breeding her when she was old enough with our handsome buck.
