We bought a hereford mix calf that had been with a young angus mix bull and a half dozen longhorn heifers/cows. Both the hereford/mix and angus/mix were very leary of the longhorn and stayed as far away as possible.
The problem is the hereford mix won't raise his head. He seems to be eating and drinking but stands and walks with his head down, not any higher than a foot from the ground. We felt sorry for these two so bought them and brought them home. Prior to this, they were run through an auction where horrible, IMHO, attrocities happened to other animals that were sold.
According to the guy who originally bought him, he was vaccinated with 7-way, not sure how long ago. I believe he may have come from a feed lot.
We are giving him good grain/grass, something I'm sure he has never had. Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks,
Deb
BTW, the Angus/mix bull is doing well and he has been with the hereford/mix for a couple weeks. I believe he was vaccinated with 4-way.
