We had our first cria born on the ranch this morning. He was a little hasty and was born in the cold morning hours. It took us a while until we discovered him. After two hours with the blow dryer he was up and running. Seems to be nursing as well by now. He is exactly 12 pounds. The mother is not new to the procedure and doing great! As a matter of fact she is normally a total spitting grump but this morning she let us do everything with the little guy without interfering. She was the picture of cooperation! What an adventure! :D

D/t to the high temps, then all the sudden fall weather, we didn't get Stef (our llama) bred this year...I will be in cria withdrawal! :(

The other pregnant alpaca is driving me insane though. Every day now! That's what I have been thinking for 2 weeks :fl :pop :barnie
This is a picture from my live baby-cam:

Hey, you only have to watch from about 10.5 to 12.5 months! That's only 2 months tops to look at a rear end every day. :p

The little guy is adorable!
