I have a mama and her baby. They are pygmy goats. I bought the mama for $50 and she had her single baby girl three months later. The baby is now a year old and I have no clue how old mama is. They are both very friendly girls to us humans, not so much to the dogs. I was wanting to add a year old wether. I was just wondering if it's a bad idea to add one to an established, yet small, herd. My girls do have horns, the male doesn't. Also, will he stink even though he's weathered? Will he pee all over himself like bucks do?

he will not stink, and will not pee on himself. wethers make wonderful pets. as for adding them to the herd, there will be some pushing and shoving, just make sure you put out extra piles of hay and feed so he gets his share. they will work out the pecking order. ;)

a lot of it actually depends on the goats themselves.. you may find that there is no issue whatsoever.. and I have found introducing wethers seems easier for whatever reason.. maybe cause they are no source of problem for anyone (male or female)... anyway my first suggestion would be to definately keep you new goat separate for awhile so that you can ensure you are not bringing any disease or illness to your already established doe herd.. this will also give time for you to get to know the goat.. and that too may make intro go easier.. once everyone checks out ok health wise you could maybe move him closer in proximity to area for a bit where maybe they could see each other and smell each other through a fence or something.. then once you feel ready to take the plunge I would recommend adding new goat in when you are gonna be around to monitor.. just to make sure nothing would get out of hand and someone get hurt. It might also be a good idea to give him a dose of probios just in case he stresses too much and gets upset tummy.
