AI with pigs

We have a GOS crossed girl that we are wanting to breed. Question here out of curiosity can one AI a pig like they do with other animals?

Hubby has raised pigs growing up, but they were all bought and raised to butcher. So this will be a first for him and us.

Yes you can AI pigs. My wife worked for the swine education unit at NC State and AI was all they did. But, they also had the boars and collected the semen as well. She also worked at the AI lab for a commercial producer. She said AI is fairly easy with pigs. Her dad has cows and they used to AI them. She says that is much more difficult.

The thing that you use is actually cork screw shaped because the end of the boars penis is corkscrewed. She said that once you start it and put your hand on her back if she is in standing heat she kind of sucks the device in. She said their success rate was around 70%

Your issue may be for just a few, getting the equipment and the semen.
