Alfalfa tree or internationally known as Lucerne tree is a drought resistant tree that has roots as deep as 135 feet and produces leafs with 23% protein and that is why it is planted as animal feed.
Last year I got myself some seeds and now I have 8 trees in pots waiting to be transplanted in the ground.
My biggest fear is the gophers will eat them.
What is nice with this tree is that produces flowers and nectar too.
In Australia they have orchards dedicated to animal fodder and they prove to be very productive.
Look into it and see if it can make life on the farm easier.
