My poor rescued Suri...first he's extremely thin, and now I notice he that he is urinating all the time.

Out of the 5 alpacas that I took in Sunday, I've only ever seen the Suri urinate and I've seen him do it about 5 times. Now I know peeing 5 times in a few days isn't abnormal, but for me to see only him go pee means that he's going much more than that. I wonder, can alpacas be diabetic? Or, is it some kind of male behavior for him to want to urinate in front of me? He is intact afterall. He's never tried to breed anything, so I doubt that is the case. I don't think it is a UTI, either, because there is no smell. Could it be diabetes?

I'm worried about this little guy. He's such a sweet old man..

I haven't heard of alpacas having diabetes but I'm sure could be a possiblity. I suspect a bladder infection though. Is there a vet that you can consult or have out to check him?

i don't know anything about alpacas, but in horses it could be bladder infection or kidney dysfunction, but i also think it could be a sign of stress. I had an injured mare that i had to keep stalled one time and i noticed that she urinated constantly. ... turned out she was so bored she just kept drinking and drinking all the time. i gave her some toys and it solved the problem.

Unfortunately there aren't any livestock vets around here who deal with camelids. I'm hoping that it's just stress or the fact that he gets so much to eat and drink. He's not shy about food one bit, and I see his head in the water bucket quite often. When he does urinate, it's very clear; no pus, blood, or dark color. He could just be a very hydrated alpaca....

Probably needs time to adjust to having good food and water. Hopefully in the near future he will kind of slow down with stuff.
