I'm beginning to think that I may be getting in over my head . We raised pigs last year for meat and I did them in 4-H for years so when I noticed a 300+ lb possibly bred gilt for sale or trade we decided to jump at the chance . Now I'm wondering if I'm going to regret it . We've always used sheep panels and t posts to keep the pigs contained and never had a problem with them getting out . But we've never had a pig quite this big will that be enough to keep her in ? I know most people recommend hot wire but thats not really in my budget and knowing my kids it's very likely that at least one of them would shock themselves . Also is she going to get lonely by herself ? I'm sure I'll have many more questions but this is it off the top of my head :)
Thanks !

You should be able to get a fairly good electric fence setup for not too many $. It will be far better than letting the gilt/sow get out and cause damage to either your property or a neighbor's property. Don't worry about the children. They will soon learn to stay away from the fence. I've been shocked more times than I care to remember. My wife and children have, and my grandchildren have too. With the exception of myself, all have seemed to have learned not to touch the thing. I'm just a bit slower to learn.
