this is kind of a question reguarding goats, sheep and cows, but i decided to put it in the goat section since theres not a section for the three combined!

so i seem to be always making troubles for myself  and im kind of stumped here. i am hoping to house my goat in with my ewe and calf once she settles in and my pen is finished. i'd like to have them all on the same feed but thats seeming impossible because my goat and calf need copper, but my ewe cant have it. right now they are all on Producer's Pride all stock pellet. everyone seems to be doing fine, but im worried how it could effect my goat and calf to not be getting copper in thier diets. is there a grain that im unaware of that could have enough copper in it for my goat and calf, but not enough to harm my ewe?

orrr as mentioned in another post was copper bollusing (sp?) which i need to do research on, so far im reading mixed opinions about whether its reccomended or not.. can you bollus a calf too?

orrr is there a supplement out there that i could throw a scoop into my goat and calf's feed and not the ewes? they all eat out of seperate bowls so it wouldnt be too big of a deal for me to do.

orrr i could maybe tie my ewe while they eat and feed her something seperate.

:th phew.. i know, i sound crazy! i guess this is what happens when you try to keep multi species together. i know there are questions reguarding my calf and sheep and this is in the goat section, so forgive me but i just didnt know where to post about this particular situation i am in. :hide

Hey!

Hows the wee lil baby doing? (need new pics btw). I bet she is HUGE!

and for your question:

I would just tie them and feed them separately.

I give mine a mineral supplement and it is pretty easy to give it to them. I mix it up with a little molasses and just give it to them with a drench gun. Once a week is all it takes. They slurp it right up. It takes a second. or you can give them a copper bolus about once every 6 months or so. That is the easiest way.

Are they long term pets? or for butchering? If they are long term pets I would for sure tie them and give them their own feed for their species, the feed would be healthier and it would be a good way to tame them to get them used to being tied.

IF not for pets, I wouldn't worry about it so much. Hay and an all purpose feed for all of them.

hey RTG! yes she is getting biiig, i will get new pics and update my post in the cattle section soon!

they are long term pets, so i guess i will have to make some changes.
Queen Mum - what is the supplement you are giving your goats? is it ok for cows too? where do you buy yours?

the goat ties well so that wont be a problem, just have to teach my sheep and calf, that should be interesting!

thanks for the advice!!

I bought my supplement at the feed store. It is called goat minerals. I buy it in a bag. It looks like sand.

There are about 20 different brands. Purina makes a very nice one that is pelleted.

You can also use one that is made for horses called Milenium Gold and supplement with copasure.

is anyone familiar with that big goat bucket thats at tractor supply? it says on it that it has all the minerals that a goat needs and to keep it free choice with plenty of good hay. it sounds like an easy way for me to get her the minerals she needs. i can keep it in her stall away from my ewe (since she prefers to have her own stall  )lol

You really are better off with the loose mineral. If she has her own stall, then you could still keep it in the stall. The first ingredient on that pail is molasses. I think you are asking for trouble with too much molasses.
