Hi,
I am sure you guys are wore out with scours questions after reading the fourm, but I have another if you will.... We have 6 new calves- stated with 7. All from a sale barn, so the colustrum question is unknown. One calf had white scours before I could get it unloaded from truck. That is the calf that didnt make it 3 days ago. Thru a lot of work we have all of the calves but one making great progress back to health. Baytril, Bannimine, Kay-o, and electrolites+eggs have worked well but this one calf just isnt doing great, but isnt bad. Any advice on how to get some pep back into this calf? I will tell you this has been the worst e-coli. I think it is is resistant to everything. I really really considered gentocin inspite of the withdraw time. Tetramicine scour boluses are worthless and sustain3 doesnt get ecoli?

Anyone had any experence with the new activated charcol based stuff like first arive etc? Will the charcol counter my antibiotic course? Can I overload with kay o pectate?

Thanks

Have the scours stopped and he just isn't perky, or is he still scouring? I don't use Kopectate, but have used First Response electrolytes, which has psyllium in it. I also put 1/4 C or so of plain yogurt when I go back to feeding milk. And I just barely tweak up the amount of milk they get, sometimes by 1/2 cup at a time. The heifer I have now (jersey) only was really ill for 1 day, but 1/2 Cup too much milk would loosen her stools right up again and don't think she ever got a full quart at a feeding.

It sounds like you are having really good luck doing what you are doing!
