Everything I read says how wonderful raw goats milk is. Anyone have testimonies of better health from their fresh raw goats milk?

We drink ours raw. I'm not going to say I've noticed any particular benefit. But, it certianly hasn't caused any problems.

We drink ours raw, but pasteurize when we make cheese. We think it makes better cheese that way. Plus we sell cheese to other people, don't want to take any chances.

Not my testimonial but know someone whose husband had colitis and fought his wife for a long time on the goats milk thing... eventually he gave in over time he no longer had issues with colitis.

@OneFine- you had to mention your cheese! Was thinking about y'all's cheese the other day!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOUR CHEESE! :drool

You need to give classes! Seriously!

Maurine did a class one time for ladies from church and a few friends. Since she isn't working now I told her she should contact a community college about doing a class.

Rachel did a cool poster for fair on making cheese.

The chevre you tried is super easy to make. She's making a batch right now since all of our babies are gone and we still have a few we have not dried off yet.

She actually got started from a Utube video but it took her a few tries to get it right. The key thing is to actually get a chevre culture. I think she get's it from a place in Raleigh that mostly sells beer brewing stuff but have cheese making supplies too.

I'll see if I can find the uTube link. It's really pretty good.

This is subject that has no proof either way. I'm a mother of two boys with heart murmers and a diabetic son. I will not play games with their lives, we pasturize our milk.
One difference is goats milk helped one son with digestive issues.
In the old days of Europe many people died from raw milk. It takes one bad bug to cause serious health problems. I pesonally don't suggest i especially with kids. Raw milk is not worth the gamble. Many will argue that raw is better. Maybe its just goats milk is better for you and not cause of it raw.

Going to say again, we haven't noticed any particular benefit of drinking raw milk. But, no problems either that would warrant the statement "not worth the gamble"

My 9 year old drinks raw goats milk.
If I were in your shoes with known health issues I would agree that I would not take any chances. But, I don't think your argument regarding the old days of Europe and people dying from drinking raw milk is valid. In the old days in Europe, more people died from drinking water than milk. That's why they all drank beer instead of water. They didn't know why, but fewer people got sick from beer because it was boiled before it was fermented.

You can't compare sanitation from "the old" days in Europe to what we know now.

After keeping a milking cow and seeing how they would lie down a fresh cow pie and have an udder caked in poop and how they can lift a poopy hoof and fling germ filled hay and poop into your bucket I can see how in "the old days" some farmers would let things slide if you really needed the milk. It is awfully hard to dump the milk that you spent a lot of time and effort and money to collect...plus many kids were milking and probably were less than careful or got in trouble for wasting the family's milk. I really believe that there is very little chance of getting ill from raw milk that you milk yourself with a few precautions. Goats are inherently MUCH more clean as their poop does not coat the udder and generally their hooves are much cleaner too. I never had to dump my goats milk unless she stepped into the bucket when we were both learning.... merely wiped her off with a clean wet cloth into a clean stainless steel bucket. Raw milk was fantastic and is sooo much healthier for you...it is loaded with the proper digestive enzymes....I had numerous people who were typically lactose intolerant that had zero issues drinking raw cow or goats milk. Plus you get the protiotics that we are so lacking in our western diet....to me it seems like such a waste to have this perfect product and then pasteurize it. I can see if you are selling it and buying from a source you can not be certain of their handling but if you are milking yourself try raw...it is so perfect it really does not need to be messed with.

Oh I should mention I have 3 kids (6, 4, and 2) am pregnant, and my mom and brother are both lactose intolerant and all drank and loved raw cow and goats milk with NO ISSUES whatsoever.

Well, when in doubt, test your milk and your goats, then you know with clean milking and handling practices you are safe to drink to your hearts content. I find it amazing how much better my body works when I drink my raw goat milk.
