Okay so I have been on the ARBA website alot , but im still not sure how to go about registering a rabbitry ? Do I have to pay for it , do you HAVE to show rabbits and do all the rabbits have to be papered ?

I dont have plans at the moment to register but sometime in the next couple of years I would love to and im really thinking on it .

I have always raised and sold rabbits(with and without papers) but never had an actual"rabbitry" .

- You do not have to join the ARBA to show rabbits at an ARBA sanctioned show.

- Joining the ARBA is not the same as registering a rabbitry. I strongly suggest you become a member yourself, for there are a lot of benefits. Joining entitles you to the bi-monthly magazine and much more. There is a reasonable membership fee.

-Registering a rabbitry is a privilege for members. It is not a requirement. All it really does is mean that no one else can register a rabbitry with the exact same name. Someone could still name their rabbitry the same thing, but not register it with the ARBA. In other words, it's something special that people like to do, but it doesn't have any significant function.

-Your rabbits do not need to have pedigrees to be shown at an ARBA show. However, if you really get into showing rabbits, I strongly suggest you obtain pedigreed stock.

If you plan to sell show stock, this is the best way to obtain some status. Also ARBA checks three generations before accepting your rabbit's pedigree. Good to show potential customers that you do have show type rabbits. It's an asset to your rabbitry when it comes to show status buns. :)

While it is True that You do not need to be an ARBA member to show Your rabbits... Should You win legs on a Grand championship... You could not get that rabbit registered and the GC certificate if You are Not a member.

There are some benifits to being a mamber......

Thanks everyone, I dont think im going to register though because no one around here shows, and havent even heard about one here . And I dont show any of my rabbits , but I selll pedigreed buns with GC(some of them have it )because the woman I buy from shows them and I buy the ones that are grand champions off of her .

The last I bought from her had won 3 legs,my dog killed all the "show stock" so im having to start over, I know what legs means and everything but how much is a GC rabbit worth ? I used to sell the babies for $10(had GC mother and both purebred)and thats too cheap IMO .

Well after typing that I realize if I breed show stock them I should just register ! :) Is it like alot of money or just a small fee ?

part of showing rabbits is traveling for shows. it's well worth it. we regularly travel 3-4 hours and meet plenty of people who travel 8-14 just for a small show. it is addictive and fun

Yeah and I understand that but thats just too far for me just to go to a show . And I do travel 3 hours or so to purchase my rabbits in OH but we have friends we also visit so thats why I go too, but not for shows . Might take them to the fair next year down there though.
