I have a friend who wanted to get started on meat rabbits. She bought some young ones from someone who told her she was getting a trio. They were all boys. So I gave her 2 does, young nz mixed. I kept their sister from the same litter and she had had 2 healthy litters, great mom from the get go, just like her mom. The 2 sisters I gave my friend have had 2 and 3 litters each so far with none living. The last time, all died but one, and I took it in bc I had a doe kindle just a couple days before. Babies are 3 weeks old. I noticed a few days ago hers had a goopy eye. Easy to tell which bc hers is the only black. Didn't think much of it. Checked in to let a friend's daughter hold one and the black one was dead. What do you think is going on? Should we treat with antibiotics or cull? I was culling the doe that fostered anyway. She's too hard to keep weight on. So if culling is best, no big deal to me, but my friend is pretty upset . Poor thing.

I have had troubles with coccidia before.
That can strike fast.
I treated with sulmet and corid.
I have not lost any since then.
How old are the rabbits that expired

They die anywhere between a day or so old and 3 weeks old. :/ that's why I don't think it's coccidia. It could have been with this last one, but I can't figure out why all of her other litters have died. The mom nurses them, my friend sees her, and they're fat and healthy one day and dead the next.

For about $10 you can have a necropsy done at Rollins Lab in Raleigh. Since you are in NC I would take advantage of it, we have a great lab and it is extremely cost effective. The info may be very valuable in the end.

Sorry for your friend and you too. Still stinks when this stuff happens! :hugs

That is a bit young for cociddia.
I would most def. take advantage of the necropsy service.
Otherwise this could just keep repeating itself

I would try sulmet in the drinking water of all the rabbits. Its an antibiotic. May work. May not.
