Have a 6 month old mini donkey with huge skin troubles. Originally thought to be ringworm and was treated with antifungal and Vetrycin. Vet has also treated with antibiotics and sent skin sample to lab for testing. Won't have results for 6 weeks. Now she is not eating and I am afraid she is not going to make it. Skin has hairloss multiple areas, and open sores. Need HELP!!!!

Rain rot is often seen durring the winter months. It can be mistake in the early stages for ringworm and makes the animal prone to more serious secondary infections. Of course I would think a vet would recognize it if it were that as it's not an uncommon thing in donkeys. Some parasites and other skin infections can mimic it as well so it is good you got the culture done. As far as her not eating I would take her vitals, if they are lower or higher than normal, I'd call the vet out.

Here is a site which will tell you the norms for donkey vital signs. http://www.kbrhorse.net/hea/donkey01.html

Thanks for the input. This donkey was with another foal who also developed the skin problems, but he responded to treatment. Vet is thinking something with autoimmune parameters may be the problem
