I banded a little 33 day old buckling yesterday. First time I have done this procedure.
I thought I did it wrong because he acted like he was in severe pain. So I removed the band after about twenty minutes. Then I was told that this was not the thing to do. So I put a band back on and he seemed okay.
This morning he is subdued. Laying down alot and quivers a little.
Should I give him some pen g in case he has an infection because of my first mistake in removing the first band?
If so what is the dosage of pen g for a buckling.
Thank you for any input

PenG wouldn't hurt, though I'm not sure if I'd give it... :/ Dosage of 1ml per 15# 2x daily for 5 days if you give it.

I'd probably give some banamine or children's ibuprofren for the discomfort.

FWIW, some bucklings have a pretty extreme reaction to being banded even when you do it right.

Thank you elevan.
I will go with some pain reliever first.
I don't like to jump onto giving meds unless really nec.
It just occurred to me that if infection is present he should have a temp. Is this right.
If it is pain then he should not present with a temp. Is this right.

Yeah, check for a temp as that's a good indicator that infection is present. Also keep an eye and nose (smell) on the area....it'll look inflamed and smell off if it becomes infected.

If it's just discomfort then there will be no temp.
