Naturally when I found it I thought CL. It's just one more headache I have to deal with. :( So, what would you recommend I do? I probably have to bring her to a vet to have it lanced and tested. Oh that'll be fun. Never mind I really don't have a place to isolate her while we wait for the results.

Also, what IS the chance I could get it?

Fingers crossed for you that it is something else. Chances of you getting it are slim but wearing gloves and avoiding contact would be good measures. If you have the vet out, maybe shave the area down really low before lancing it. Then cover it with something durable (I am not sure what you should use but I am thinking gauze and duct tape or something that will REALLY stay on well). If you can't isolate her, keeping it covered so other goats don't come into contact with it may help keep them from getting CL if it turns out to be positive.

Where is the lump located?
On her right side of her chest, visible just behind the elbow. It looks like it might be a spot where she got butted. As far as I know, none of the breeder's stock had CL and none of my goats have ever had any signs of anything remotely like it until now.

You sure that's not just where she received and injection?

We always give our injections behind their shoulder, and CD&T vaccines in particular can leave a lump. We see it a lot.

At least I hope that's all it is.

CL would be located on a lymph node. I don't think there are any lymph nodes in that location.

No, I didn't do any injections there. It's actually on her chest -- just on a rib, behind the front leg elbow. Technically it's close enough to that lymph node under the armpit, but it isn't where the lymph node is. So, given that I have smaller goats with horns, I know they like to butt right in that area. At least I hope that's what it is.:fl

I misunderstood when you said behind the elbow. I understand where you are talking about now.

I hope you are right, she just got butted.
