Barred Buff: That question is impossible to answer. Here's why: In south Florida, the Brahman-derived breeds might do very well. However, in North Dakota, they would have a hard time surviving the winters. In North Dakota, the Angus or Angus crosses do very well. In Florida, they would wilt under the stress of the heat and humidity.

Climate is just one variable to consider. There's also the issue of terrain, feed supply, disease resistance, parasite resistance, and a host of other environmental things to consider.

The same goes for dairy animals. While a Holstein will produce well under confinement conditions, they would do poorly under a grass fed environment. There are other breeds that perform much better in a grassfed situation.

So---without knowing the environmental conditions, it is impossible to answer your question. Hope this makes sense.

As jhm47 says its hard to advise however for beef you should check out Galloway cattle as they can deal with the most hostile (heat and cold) conditions and thrive on poor grassland. Our herd are doing very well on hay and pasture with no feed of any kind, no horns, friendly, live long, no birthing issues.
They live outside (with a shelter) all year through a minus 25 winter and a hot humid summer here in Ontario.
Check out the info from wildrose beef on http://www.backyardherds.com/web/viewblog.php?id=236
I'm sure others will come along with more suggestions
