I will be redoing my fencing next year, and I love the look of black fencing rather then white. I'm just curious as to how safe it is at night. I know horses have great night vision, and it wouldn't be sold if it was unsafe, but..... Has anyone had more problems with looted fencing vs white?
Thanks
Jessica

So is the fence material vinyl or wood? Kentucky had been doing black, creosote
board fences for over 100 years, horses have managed OK. Some horses are just
stupid, going to get hurt no matter what you use.

In my Utility company job, the dark plastic materials lasted MUCH longer than any
of the white vinyl products did in the sunshine, even with UV inhibitors.

Know going in, that vinyl fence alone, will not keep horses in. You have to have WORKING
electric fence inside the vinyl, to keep horses off it,not sticking heads and legs thru.

As you say, horses have excellent vision, day and night, so I would think black
fence would work. Is this the coated wire or the wide strips that appear to be
boards? Coated wire might not be AS visible as the wide vinyl strips.

I have the fence flags on my high tensile wire fence top strand. I really think flags
do a good job of making fence visible for the DEER. Horses have always been quite
respectful of it with the 8 strands, plus having it hot ALL THE TIME prevents them
testing it and causing problems. Fence flags here have lasted years, stay in locations
mid-span, even with good wind blowing. Easy to put on quickly. I have a flag on
every fence section between posts, extra flags in places that horses would need to
turn quickly, like a lane end with gate to the side. Worth the money in saved Vet
costs and peace of mind. I will never know just how many incidents my flags
prevented by just being in place. Has greatly lessened fence fixing from #*@
deer getting snagged in the wire as the dive thru. Now the deer run thru the
neighbor's yard instead of shortcutting across my fields!! Deer seem to avoid the
flagged fences if they can.

Congrats on getting a new fence!
