It could be. I don't know what Carson looked like as a pup, so I can't really compare with these guys. If we keep them we can do a DNA test.
I do think the smaller one looks a bit pittie though. He has pittie ears, a skinnier tail and thinner fur like a pit, and in person his face looks like it too. His brother though looks full lab, floppy ears, thicker fur and thicker tail, and he's built more like a lab too. He is beautiful. I will ask the vet tomorrow what he thinks about breed.

If the bill will be too high to help the pup with the broken leg, we will probably sadly have to have him put down and keep the other. It's just part of life. We can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars on a pet.

He's a pretty boy! I can definitely see the Dane in him with that long nose and big bones.

He’s a big boy now, 6 years old and my sidekick. He is a sweetheart.

I have been neglecting this journal a bit with the beginning of summer and crazy busy schedule. I will attempt to catch it up!

First I want to update about the two puppies. We took them to the vet and he examined them. He confirmed the breed as most likely being pittie/lab mix. He told us that the broken leg could be fixed and gave us instructions on how to do so, but after talking about it as a family, we decided that it would not be practical to keep two new dogs with our busy schedule. One would already be difficult enough. So with heavy hearts, we put down the one with the broken leg.

The other one, Ranger, was thriving! He started going on dog walks with us and the Pyrenees and lovedvit, he stopped eating like he was starving, and he learned how to sit and come when his name was called very quickly. He did not chase chickens, but he did chase cats. The cats were not happy, lol. My mom, who does not usually like puppies because they are hyper and jumpy, warmed up to him because he was very chill and sweet. No jumping and no excessive barking. He particularly attached himself to me and became my little shadow.

But unfortunately it wasn't meant to be. A month after he first came to stay with us, we heard the big dogs barking one Saturday afternoon. They don't usually bark during the day, so we always check when they do. I had neglected to teach Ranger about electric fence, and that was fatal. He wandered out into the pasture and got stuck in the electric net fence. When we found him, he was in shock and not responsive. By then, we were pretty attached to him, so we took him to the emergency vet, (because emergencies ALWAYS happen on weekends). They told us that they could keep him overnight and give him IVs, drugs and pain meds, but that would not guarantee his survival. There was damage to his lungs and his nervous system. So we decided to have him put down there at the vet. We got to pet him as he fell asleep. They were very sweet about it and gave us a nice box to take him home in.

So now all I have is the memories of having my first un-LGD puppy. They are good memories, and I'm thankful for them, even if they are a bit sad. And we learned a good lesson. Always train new animals to electric fence immediately! Another thing I learned is that dogs don't have to come from a good breeder to be good dogs. Sometimes the best ones are rescue mutts. I kind of knew that before, but now I have experienced it firsthand.

Here are the pics. They looked even worse yesterday when we found them. They were a lot more friendly this morning, let us pet them after they ate and wagged their little tails like crazy. They are sweet, sweet pups. I'm thinking lab mix. We thought the skinner one had a hurt foot yesterday, but on closer examination, I think it's actually a broken leg.

Aww they have the sweet lab look in their eyes.I cannot believe some people do that to animals! We get a lot of dumped cats around here and we always keep them and turn them into barn cats. we've had friends bring them over to us because they found them dumped and couldn't keep them, I'm not a cat person but I think every animal should have a home. My dream was always to go out into the city and take home stray dogs or to help owners find them. Sometimes I wonder how sad my life would be without animals

Y’all gave Ranger and his brother a home. Loved, fed, and treated well. Circumstances prevailed, not a happy ending for the family. Both puppies definitely had a better, if short, life and would have starved to death had y’all not taken them home. They may have died much too soon, but they were surrounded by love, the greatest gift of all.

I managed to catch this picture tonight! How sweet is this?? I think he's trying to make me melt with his sweetness so I'll forget he was a bad boy today.
Also, the level of trust this ewe has in him speaks for itself. It's a good dog if the sheep feel comfortable enough to use him as a pillow.
