Blood in mini donk's urine

For the last two weeks, I have noticed a burgundy coloration to my donkeys urine spots. I have not been able to catch him urinating to see for sure if it is in his urine. We just layed down screenings and that's when I noticed the color change. I tried to clean him to see if he had a bean, but he refused that. Any thoughts on this? I should also mention, he is 6 years old and he was just gelded in June.

I don't know where you are or what season you are in but is this noticed on snow? Feeding alfalfa will cause the urine to react with something in the snow to change colors, usually reddish.
