So, the PB boar we had for the wedding and for the weekend two weeks later. We smoked him. He turned out fine, no boar taint, no 'greasy' anything like some people say PBs will have.
Only thing is that apparently, I bought micro potbellies without knowing it....He was about 45 pounds live and a little over a year old. Clearly had stopped growing months before. The boar I have now is smaller, the sow is also small, about the same size as the boar. These two are a breeding pair, not dinner.
It kind of makes me want to get real PBs that grow far larger...but at the same time, these are about 15-16in tall and so easy to deal with...
Anyway, back to the topic, I won't be bothering castrating male piglets to raise for butcher, clearly a waste of time and stress for us and the pigs.
