Just picked up an adorable little Nigerian Dwarf Doeling this afternoon. She is in the house in a pen tonight as the barn is too cold still here in Vermont. She will be out during the day, but in at night until it warms up enough that her ears aren't cold.

SO... a few questions, if I may...

What kind of shot schedule should she be on. She is 8 weeks old. She is very tiny.

What kind of things might I need to keep in my medicine chest for her?

I am very familiar with horses, dogs and cats, but goats are new...

According to the lady who sold her to me, she is CAE clean herd, disbudded, wormed.

Should I find out if there is a goat vet in my area?

Too many questions for so late on a Saturday evening.

Any information or suggestions would be more than appreciated.

Thanks so very much!

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post these questions...

Contact the person who sold her to you to find out if she was given her initial and booster of CD&T. If they disbudded and dewormed they likely did, but if not then you want to do that.

See the link I posted in the previous post for "Goat Starter Kit"

Yes, absolutely. A good goat vet is an essential part of your "toolkit"

Welcome to Nigerian 's! Definitely read through the links Elevan posted...really great stuff. My only addition is to ask if you only have one goat and to recommend you get a herdmate quickly if so. She will need another goat as a buddy to be happy and healthy. Gots pics for us to drool over?

I'm working on another addition. For right now she is in the house with us. Except for when she is outside in the warm afternoon for exercise and fresh air... does anyone have a doeling 5 to 8 weeks old looking for a home near Weathersfield, Vermont for not too much???

We got our new addition, Violet. They are doing very well together. Thank you, everyone, for all your suggestions and help!

I live in northeastern Maine where it gets really cold. Except that there is no buddy for your doe she should be outside. They are tough little buggers and thrive outside well. My babies were born in March and lived outside in their pens since then. They grow thick coats in the winter and love the snow. Yours will, too. Get her a buddy soon!

Oh, I see you got her a buddy...great. Now make them an outside pen with lots of climbing on toys. These guys love to jump around.
