I'm having one doe this year who is really confusing me. I brought in a buck from another farm around the end of August, and he bred all the does multiple times. I took him home on September 20th, so he was here a little over three weeks. None of the does have come back into an obvious heat, but one doe is acting a little funny. I have an Alpine buck awaiting butchering (he's extremely aggressive) that is usually kept out of sight of the girls, but I had to move him to where they can see each other because I needed his stall to put some chicks in. I moved him last week. Almost immediately after, this one doe is standing at the fence nearest him, wagging her tail and going "meh meh meh" at him, so I think, great she's back in heat and did not get bred, I need to go get the buck again...out of curiosity I took her over to the Alpine buck on a leash...he was all over her, wanting to mate (I carefully did not let him!) but after a few seconds she turned around and slammed him against a wall. I took that as a sign she was definitely not interested and took her back to her own pen. She went right back to the fence and was "Meh-meh-mehing at him again". She did it for a day or so, and never showed any actual interest. She started it again yesterday, again no interest in the actual mating, just being flirty. She was bred the 29th of August and has not shown a serious heat since then, just this little bit of flirting. Normally when she is in heat she gets super lovey to the other does, rubbing all over them and licking them, but not now. She hasn't done this before, she has always settled on the first breeding and never gone back into heat.
What do you think? Is she just flirty because of all the raging stinky buck hormones in the air? Or do I probably need to arrange her another date with the good buck?
