Here's my situation...

I have 3 does who are somewhat related. Not sisters, but from the same breeder, so they have relatives in common along the line. I have a buck that is a distant relative to one..(if I remember correctly).

I bred him to all 3 does. I have a doe and buckling from one and a buckling from another. (the third is due the 14th).

Would you breed the buckling from one with the doeling from the other even if they have the same father? Would you breed that buckling to the other adult does? (not the mother).

Am I correct to think that I should not breed brother to sister or father to daughter?

Would any bucklings born this yr be of any use to me for breeding?

Just want opinions....thanks.

Breeding half-siblings usually doesn't result in any problems, there's enough fresh blood from different dams that they shouldn't be recycling too many genes.

I'd have to see pedigrees to recommend keeping or breeding future bucks.

Inbreeding is common in Arabian horses and all purebreds are inbred to some degree to fix traits. "American" Toggs probably wouldn't be quite as inbred as a purebred Togg.

The sire's registered name is Lesniak-Hill EL Cowboy.

The Dam's are;
Maple Haven W Cloe
Maple Haven BW Jasmine
Maple Haven TJB Cowslip

They're all registered with ADGA

From Cloe I have a doeling and Buckling.
From Jasmine I have a buckling.
Cowslip hasn't kidded yet.

If I keep Jasmines buckling, I could breed him to Cowslip and the doeling? (Cloe passed away). I can't breed Cowboy to his doeling.
I can't breed Jasmine's buckling back to her...

Am I close? Or totally confused.

I think you've got it. Just remember

good to good = good
bad to bad = bad

Don't breed just for the sake of breeding. If any of the bucklings or doeling have obvious or detrimental faults (bad teeth, crooked legs, weird teats) they should be culled and not bred.

I'll try anything that isn't full-littermate sibling....including father to daughter and mother to son, and half-siblings....but then I DON'T breed that resulting offspring back to the parent again.
