have my black otter buck.
he is proven...hes given me 2 beautifl litters so far, ive another doe sucessfully bred by him...so i know hes not confused...

have 2 does that i want t breed him to this week.

1 doe is a doe who reacently weaned a litter from him, shes been bred before by him no problem everything whent smoothly

the other doe is a 7month old first timer...

i put my experienced doe in first (this way i shoudl have a good surrogate should the other doe be a bad first time momma) he tried...of my goodnes did he try...but no "connection" was made, (was watching), shes not lifting her rumpfor him and hes hitting too high (just about the tail height)
after about 10 minutes it was if hes gotten bored of not hitting the mark as was just ignoring her.

so i took her out, figured id try again tomorrow...

about 6 hours later i tried doe 2, the first timer...again, same issue, hes enthusiatically mounting and humping, but theres no actual connection being made.

this morning i put doe 1 back in...STILL no connection.

im realy confsed by this, hes experienced (and enthusiastic) are the girls just not interested in breeding right now and therefore not lifting for him?!
ive tried "assisting" but then he gets REALY distracted and much more interested in what im doing than what hes supposed to be doing, and the girls are none to happy about that situation either.

is this a case of girls not ready? or a case of "boy hes a dumb lover" and what, if anything can i do to remedy this situation.

Im currently debating just putting 1 doe in with him and leaving her in there for the day, but im not good ad palpating for young, so id then be potentialy waiting a month with no results
these 2 are my last breedings for the season as its going to be getting very hot around here very soon so i want to take july and august off from breeding so the girls arnt raising litters in 90+ degree weather.

When that happens to me I scruff the does with one hand and pull up slightly on the tip of the tail over the back with my other hand. My buck could care less about what I'm doing and it works every time. Granted I usually only have to do this with first timers, not my experienced does. Try it and see if it works.

yeah that i tried but hes just way too interested in what im doing to focus if i get "involved" lol. guess its one of the down sides to having very freindly bunnes as my breders lol..., he'll snif, but he wont mount if my hands are in the hutch.
will just try them every morning untill they get it right i guess, im hoping currycomb is right and there just not "ripe" right now lol.
i know generally does are receptive 12 ou of every 14 days...mabe i just picked the 2 days theyve taken off lol

Yeah, that's the girls' issue. They have to lift, there isn't anything the buck can do to get them do that. I've been known to take a book out with me to the rabbits, and sit and read until I hear the rattle of the cage, then look up to see if its an actual mating. Sometimes it takes a while for one or the other to decide to cooperate.

If it were me, I'd repeat 2-3 times each day until you see a couple successful breedings. You don't have to leave the doe the whole time, just give them a good amount of time to try, remove her, and put her back to try again 6-8 hours later, and keep repeating.

well i got blackberry bred this morning. i put her in and THUD...done...when he hits his mark that boys GOOD lol.
so she must have must've been on an off day.

im stll trying to decide if i want to test breed the black doe to my mini rex buck for a color test (the breeder told me shes carrying for dilute and mi mini buck is an opal) or if im going to try a repeat for her with my black otter buck tomorrow lol.

but YAY for a sucessfull coupling...i must admit i was getting a tad concerned when he couldnt get either doe to cooperate lol

Virginia is for Pasture Farmers!
Rabbits are stimulated ovulators.
If their vulva is not dark red to purple, she is not ready and you shouldn't even bother breeding. Usually her 'condition' is not right for her to be ready to breed again.
If you pet the rabbit's back end or rub her on either side at the base of her tail and she lifts, then she's ready.
A few attempted breedings for up to 4 days in a row should also get her in the mood.
You can also tie a string to her tail, lay her out flat with her back feet propped up on their toes behind her. One finger on her spine between the shoulder blades and the string laid over her back, between the ears. When the buck mounts and starts his thing, gently pull on the string to get her to lift.
My buck also does not breed if my other hand is down near the 'wrong' end, lol, so that's where the string comes in handy.

great idea on the string! i would have never thought bout that.

blackberry bred no problem but rowan my black doe is still a no go today will be day 4 of "buck visitation" and she showed no interest in lifting this morning...will try her again this afternoon...
told her she has untill friday to "find the mood" lol she doesnt run from him, no struggle no nothing, she ust lays there...LITERALLY lol. shes such an odd doe anyway and im giving thought into rehoming her to someone with a better set up (shes the only bun i have thats refusing the litterbox and i dont have wire cages so keeping her hutch clean is REAL annoying lol.) but still...never known such a "cold" doe lol.
