Brown swiss for meat.

I was wondering if brown swiss make good beef cattle compared to say an angus? Theres a guy trying to sell some calves 21 days old and younger for $175. Is that a high price?

The price is in the ballpark. Brown Swiss are probably the best of the dairy breeds for meat production. Not as efficient as feeding out one of the beef breeds like Angus, but definitely better than a Holstein or Jersey. Jerseys have pretty good quality meat, but they grow very slowly, and are not very efficient in feed/pound of gain ratio. Holsteins grow faster, but are also not very efficient. Swiss would be midway between the Angus and dairy breeds for efficiency. Good luck!

Do they get horns or are they pulled?

The can come in either horned or polled.
