Buying an Experimental doe?

We are considering buying an Registered experimental Sannen Doe. But if she was bred to another registered Sannen buck....what would the kids be? 50% experimental 50 Sannen?

Also she has some kids who are registered already but they have scrapie tags in their ears....is this a no no for showing? They do not have ear tattoos yet because they dont have a tattoo setup.

An experimental is usually a cross between 2 standards of different breeds
A common cross would be Alpine and Sannen
That cross is 50 percent each
If you breed that cross to a registered Sannen they would be 75 percent Sannen

If you breed those off spring to a Saanen buck you can register those as American Saanen
So do you know what she is?
Is she 50 percent or 75 percent
I don't know why they are calling her an experimental Saanen
I know in shows they are showed as Recorded Grades and the judge usually refers to them as to what they look like
A Sannen type grade or Alpine type grade

I'm not sure if there is any rule of thumb that you call them a Sannen experimental depending upon what the dam or sire is ?
It may be if they are white I'm not sure

I've never seen goats with scrapies tag in adga show because they are tattooed
I would assume they can be removed

She is 50/50 Saanen/nubian but looks 100% Saanen
She was bred by a Saanen/Alpine and had alpine looking kids

i was only thinking of buying her because she is local, has been tested for everything, is in milk and comes with the twin kids and has a good udder. I only have Alpine's for large goats though so i dunno.

My saanan/Nubian doe is great temperament wise. More vocal than the Alpines but not nearly as pushy. I was told they are super hearty and good producers for milk. I have yet to have kids with her as she is only just a year old but she is great personality and temperament wise and would buy another in a heart beat. They are very common and sought after in my area.

We are not sure yet we are saving to buy our farm in August/September and this goat with her buck/doe kids is over $400 which is high for our area..normally you can get a mixed breed registered goat for around $100-125....non-registered kids for about $75 each so she is almost double with her two kids but we honestly dont even want the buck and the seller wants them all to go together so i dunno, its a tough call.

You would be able to sell the buck kid later on as well. But I completely understand. In my area, a doe in milk will go for upwards of $500, just the papered doe with no kids... And any breed that has dairy in it is going for $200-300 as kids and that isn't even papered or tested. I don't mean to be a "good influence" (I know us goat addicts need to stick together) but I do suggest that if you have any reservations, you hold off. Your gut knows best. There will be others that come along and patience will pay off.

Even in milk the highest they get here is roughly $150 if its not purebred. I could sell the buck but the buck and the doe kid are not registerable as far as i know so he would be sold as a meat kid likely which i could only get maybe $75/100 for after i fed him for a few months. I'm just not really feeling like its a good deal for us atm esp since im wanting to get a registered Alpine buck...which i found for $225 btw lol A very cute Sundgau.

I can tell you I love, love, love my Saanen doe. She is quiet, rarely talks and when she does its low & quiet. My Nubian is quiet, for a Nub, but when she talks, loud. Now my mini Nubs are loud and tend to excessively holler for just "anything" , especially the younger of the two. As you see, price varies by area. Obviously, more for registered and proven, breeder & good milker. Ivory gives me 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 gal per day, great milk!! She milks heavy and does not like to dry for next kidding. At end of cycle, she's still giving 3/4 gal a day and just doesn't want to stop.

Her daughters are 1/2 Nubian but have all her characteristics, color, personality -- calm, quiet, loving. I've always had Nubs & Boers until Ivory. I'd keep all Saanens if I had to choose just one breed. I enjoy their personalities & enjoy the calm as I age. Mine are full sized.

The only thing about Saanens is their milk...it has the lowest butterfat of all dairy breeds.

@misfitmorgan Is the buck that sired these kids registered?

@Samantha drawz I wish I could get that kind of money for my does in milk. I have 4 to sell right now, registered and tested and I am asking 250.00 and will be lucky to get it. I sell my registered alpine doelings for 150.00 if I can sell them at all, and the bucks I sell wethered or unregistered for $50.00. These are purebred Alpine or LaManchas. A lot of goats where I live.
