We have two 4 month old steer calves that won't stop trying to nurse each other. My concern is that they are starting to get some horns and we also have 3 new baby calves that will join the herd in a few weeks. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for us, it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried separating them? That may solve the problem, though not if they can reach each other through the fence.

It would be hard to seperate them now as they share the same section of the barn. A vet mentioned a nose ring, haven't been able to find any in our area yet. We are new to this. Lol

I would think nose rings are the way to go. We have a couple of cows (yep, grown ups!) at the farm I milk at that still have them. It would probably be a good idea to resolve it before you get the new calves, as they can suck on the umbilical cords and that doesn't always end well.

Thanks for your help, I think I may have located some nose rings but they look like they are the permanent kind ???. there isn't any problem with that, is there? We are raising beef cattle. We already have the three other baby calves but the are seperated until I get them weaned which won't be for another few weeks.
