I was chatting with our vet yesterday and learned that a local recently lost a few goats to what turned out to be clostridium prefringens type A. They had vaccinated for C and D, as we do, and have a good care routine for their animals. So when their goats became sick and died, the vet determination left them in disbelief because they had never heard of the other types. And to be honest---neither had I!! In all of the books I have read, forums I've participated in, and product catalogs I've gone through, I have not ever read about other strains that could bring down my herd.

So a share for any other "nerds" out there who like to read up on this kind of thing.

Evidently CP type A has been found in goats for quite some time. That article was submitted for publication over 10 years ago.

I know! I was very surprised by it because, like I said, I had never even heard of it before. Always something new to learn.
