Not sure if this is the right spot for this, but any ways. . .

I was wondering what all you lama people do for CDT vaccines. Do you give it every year? Every couple years? What about crias? I have heard several different opinions on when to give it, so I thought I would ask. :) You can never have too much info!

Most people give a CDT vaccine every year for adults.

As far as crias, there are quite a few ways people do it.

Some people vaccinate their dam about 60 days prior to due date and then don't give the cria a CDT booster shot until later. The timeframe on the booster can vary depending on who you talk to.

Some people vaccinate after the dam gives birth and then also vaccinates the cria at birth and then boosters it a short while later. There are even a couple different timeframes when people give the boosters.

I think whatever will work best for you. Also personal experiences will help decide what you will want to do. Talk to your vet and see what they recommend. It can be different in different parts of the country

Here in Ohio we need to give CDT and people have lost crias because they didn't give a CDT shot.

I take it you aren't at the National show this week. I actually live about 45 minutes away from the IX Center but I'm the one watching everyone's pregnant females and bottle feeding crias while they are at the show.

No, I am not at Nationals this weekend. I wonder if I have ever seen you at a show? I have talked to you once, but don't remember ever meeting you. How far away from Columbus are you? I am about 1/2 hour west of. Do you have many alpacas to watch this weekend? They always seem to have them when their owners are gone. . . . :D

I am about 1.5 hours north of Columbus in Ashland County. I have 18 alpacas here for birthing but 4 were brought up just to be watched during Nationals. The others will stay until they give birth. Then there is the bottle baby that I'm feeding. I was hoping mom would come around but she really wants nothing to do with her cria. I finally let them out in the field with the others this morning. The cria needs fresh air and sunshine too.

I haven't been to a show in years and then I did go to Best of the Midwest show this past March. Now that I have alpacas here to birth, I'm done with showing again. I don't get out too much. :p

I give my adult llamas a CDT yearly... a few weeks after they've delivered their crias.

I give the crias a shot between 4 - 6 weeks old and a follow up roughly 4 to 6 weeks later.

Here in Maine, all our adult alpacas get their CDT once a year.

I'm not entirely comfortable giving vaccines to pregnant females, so I wait to do them with their cria. Crias get their first CDT at one month old. Then they get their second at 3 months.

We also do Rabies. Adults once a year, pregnant females 1 month after giving birth. Crias get theirs at 4 & 5 months.

CDT dose for goats is 2ml. And CDT for Cattle is 5ml. I've had goats for awhile but this is my 1st time dosing my Llamas & Alpacas..... now that their vaccination is needing to be re-administered I wondered what dosage everyone else uses for their Llamas or Alpacas? (I use Bar-Vac CD/T vaccine).
