I started coming to BYC in 2017 before our first chicks arrived and created a profile here because we were/are going to add some goats, geese and bees...Eventually.

We now have around 50 hens in a coop I built with a temporary run. And 4 roosters in a bachelor pen.

We have learned a whole lot about chickens since our first group arrived in June 2017. What I thought was a stupid bird has gained my respect. They are pretty great!

We have such a wonderful community here at BYH, but we know life gets busy, so I was thinking it would be fun to start a thread welcoming some of our herd-loving-friends we haven't seen in a while.

If that's you, come say hello and let us know what you've been up to! :)

It’s been so long I have forgotten how to post. I am doing well. There have been a lot of changes since I was here last. I finally moved to my dream place.I live on 8 acres in crystal country Arkansas. I still have goats, chickens, cats and dogs

I’m doing well and yes, it has been a while since I’ve checked in!
Our flock of Dorper sheep grew by two lambs today! The herd of rabbits is doing well and kits are growing. Our newest additions are a small flock of Blue Star chickens. I’ve been a little disappointed in the number and size of eggs but they are young, so maybe it will improve. I have just learned to make pickled eggs so I’m ready for those girls to step up production!

We sold our goats and ducks and house and garden beds on our suburban plot, moved halfway across the country, and are now establishing a new place on 5 acres, a long-held dream. We've been here just over a year and we're still working on clearing land and establishing infrastructure. Got a flock of chickens and a safe place, are working on a nicer more permanent coop and run, building out raised beds for the garden. We'll eventually get other animals (I'd love to get goats again, miss my girls!) but we're enjoying all of this.

A few months after we moved in, there was a storm with 80-100mph winds that went right through our backyard, taking down 8 trees and our just-finished chicken coop so I will say that affected our timeline!

Ok, I got the shame notification from Nifty too!
I've retired and moved to a 20 acre property in the mountains to expand my chickens and honeybees since I first posted. I have about 30 chickens and four hives. I'm designing and building (with SketchUp Pro) a Slovenian hive on a trailer (picture a traditional Slovenian hive in a Vardo style wagon). I'd love to talk shop with any of you wanting to do the same.
