The guinea reminds me of Sunday dinner at grams. If a special day, or a pheasant had been hunted. Yep, meat on the live is a way of preservation. 🥰

Still winter here, a frosty 30 with 25 feel like. BRRR, I dislike winter - even my "mild" ones, which I tolerate -- you guys with REAL cold! 🥴Humor me.

We got a cold front hitting right now, just showed usual snow and cold temperatures coming through and right up to the moment it hits it's all you see. Within 6 hours or less click on the weather like this morning and there is all these weather alert warnings of the real story, by then if you didn't already prepare for this you are fked! It's the after weather alert warning they should call it, after it drops 12 inches the warning comes through.
Anywho I digress, what am I going to do today... hmm mosey around doing odds and ends that leads towards more projects being close to finished or finished.

Once again, rudely awakened in the black of itztoodamnedearlytobeup. Fen made quick work of his breakfast and is jealously guarding Boone’s which is locked in the crate next to his, away from his covetous lips because Boone doesn’t wake up hongry for food. He just wants hugs.
Too early for coffee. Pain killers (if you consider a mere puff of breath, killing) have not kicked in yet. My shoulder has been snapping lately. Yesterday it happened and made me cry out. Dr Boone was immediately on scene with hugs, whines and kisses to save my life. Fen was watching out the window for his sexy k9 love interest, “Margaret” so of course, he was not on lifesaving duty.
Hoping today goes forward better than it’s starting out. I want to count how many littles Snowy kindled yesterday. Have a gud ‘un yall.

Coffee is ready. I’ll be out at daylight and get chores done. Then I’ll go pick up baby meat chicks.
Tempted to buy me some baby ducks this morning reading this, picked up 10 eggs this morning between 15 hen ducks. More money is going out than coming in with this rate of feed per egg mathematics. Math says cull the 8 drakes and 13 guinea fowl and shove in about 30 more hen ducks in their place which would put me at 50 birds assuming they all survive in my 16' x 16' structure. Sure I can cull the unneeded by the time 8 weeks roll around. Get average 2 dozen eggs a day and I will be happy.

Morning all, chilly here, but not terrible. Woke up at about 3:15 to the sound of something banging around in my heater. Shut it off and tried to go back to sleep. Was mildly successful and got another hour and a half. Tried to turn on the heater this morning and just got a bad smell. Had to get to the gym and class, but definitely going to be messing with it when I get home this afternoon.
Y'all have a fantastic day.

🥴 Sadly true! We all hate the feed prices. Used to sell a lot of eggs before COVID -- then everyone alive got backyard chickens, began making bread, raised a little garden, canned food. Yeah, many are over it now but don't want to pay what eggs cost. 🤷.

My flock free range, which helps. This yr I will raise some winter feed stuff for them. Might not be 100% of it but even 50% would be nice. I've even considered cricket & worm farms for them🤣. Also, chicken dinner with half the flock! I rarely even eat eggs 🫤😆but love the chickens and esp a hen & chicks.

I’m restarting my chickens and so not breaking even yet. I enjoy them though. And Broody’s back. :weee
