I have wanted pigs for a while. I'm not even sure I will get them because my mom doesn't like pigs, even though my dad does :D But it doesn't hurt to plan in case it happens, right? ;)

Well...I am interested in getting two to three yorkshire gilts, raising them up, breeding them, and selling the pigs at auction. They will probably be bred through AI. I will probably have the pigs in separate pens, or maybe in one large pen. (They won't be pastured.)

My question is how can I contain pigs with no electric (my mom says absolutely not to electric) and no concrete pens (we need a permit for laying a large concrete pad)? I will have to use wooden posts or T posts and either welded or woven wire. Is it even possible, or will breeding sows try to lift up the bottom of their pen to get out?

What kind of basic shelter can I build that sows won't destroy?

Thanks in advance. :)

I would suggest hog panels. Pigs like to root and will pull up the bottom of woven wire while doing so and then they'll be out. And chasing pigs is the worst imo.
