I was telling my husband about the copasure boluses. We have never added any additional copper supplements to our program and we were talking about trying this.
His first comment was, "That's why I hate sheep, having to give the boluses."

So What exactly are you using to give the boluses, a bolus gun?

Do you always purchase the smaller boluses for the goats (100 to 500lb)?

What is your recommended age for starting to use the copasure?

Our adult goats would only be on pasture onse the kids are weaned in around a month from now, or just grass hay if there is no pasture, and a Forage Master loose goat mineral.

We were thinking giving one copasure in the spring after weaning to help with parasite loads on summer pasture and to get them ready to be rebred later in the summer. Along with our normal Bo-Se injections.

I am reading that some people break it open and divide it up into smaller gel caps and then give it that way. Sounds like a lot of trouble to me.

Anyone do it this way?

I think copasure capsules are listed for cattle 150-500 pounds. More than most goats need. So they're made into smaller doses for goats. Not everyone recapsules them though, somoeone (Helmstead, I think?) uses a big syringe, cuts the tip off and packs the rods in with probios paste - then shoots it in the back of the throat. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Ok, here it is, I've never posted a thread link before, lets see if this works:

Hopefully that did it.
