This is my 7yr old gelding Patch. I bought him two years ago from a lady who used to "breed" miniatures. (Breed's in italics because this woman kept using the same sire even though her mares kept having dwarves). She only wanted $500 for him, even though her other horse (geldings and mares) were 4k and up. I have a suspician there might be some Shetland in the woodpile. Don't really care either way, just curious.

Re you refering to European Shetlands or American Shetlands? Because American Shetlands tend to be finer boned and more "horse" like then the European bloodlines. Additionally not all Miniatures are as "fine" built as the one you posted a photo of. It depends on the parents of your gelding. It's hard to say without seeing the conformation of the parents of the gelding.

IDK? He just looks like a mini to me. Minis can come in different body types. There are the more refined types, like the one you have pictured and then there are the minis that are of the "draft horse build". They are stockier, and rounder. My boy is a pure mini and his sire looked just like the shetland you have pictured.

This is my mini at one or two years old I think? He's four now and a bit stockier than in these pictures.

I've went to a Mini farm a few years ago, and his mare were as stocky as can be. They al have different body builds, so i'd say that he doesn't have any Shettie in him. :)

Here's a picture I found of a mini that resembles yours.
I don't think he has Shetland in him. But he certainly doesn't look like an AMHA mini either.
It does make me wonder though, why she sold him for so little when she sells her other horses for 4k.
Maybe he just didn't meet her standards, but still why that much lower?
