About a month ago my smallest Dexter had yellow exudate running from her eyes. One eye was red. I asked the Vet and he said as long as she was keeping her eyes open and not squinting that there was no need for antibiotics. He thought she might have scratched the eye with something or it could be from the strong dry winds we were having. The eyes seemed to clear up except for the redness. Now I am noticing it tearing excessively again and she seems to have hives all on her neck and shoulders. Could it be allergies and what do you do for them? Also her umbilicus looks reddened and swollen. She is about a year old. Any thoughts?

Where are you located?

I've never really heard of this before, but it could be possible. Maybe she's allergic to something she's eating, pollen, anything.

:welcome to the herd!

I've heard of other animals that have had allergies so, why not cows?

Having said that, what to do?

I have a neighbor whose dog has allergies and she gives her a human allergy pill but, you'd probably need many for a cow. If it's just her eyes maybe a gentle wash twice a day, if she would let you.

Well to update things...the cows eyes are clear and bright again and the bumps have disappeared. I may never know what the problem was unless it happens again. She has also started gaining weight better.:celebrate
