We are building a enclosed goat pen where the goats will be locked in at night because of predators. The shelter will look like those Port-A-Hut which doesn't have a bottom. It will just sit the dirt. I am wondering now if coyote or fox would dig under to get inside to get to the goats?

I would imagine that they could. But would they?...

Well they are like dogs, and dogs like to dig. But I've never dealt with coyotes.

That's what I figured. We'll bury some fencing wire next to the shelter then. Something dug underneath the fence and I assume it came inside dog area. It is just a small fenced in area for the dog to relieve himself. He is an inside dog. We think it's a fox. Our dog is 95lbs so I am not worried. Why he wants to come inside, I have no idea.

The ideal resolution would be a dog of some sort. We have coyotes. They are very opportunistic and will attack an animal if they have the time and ability. If you have a dog or another large animal that they are threatened by they will simply not attempt to get in. Another solution would be to put human hair from a brush on your fence posts. They will not come around if there is a strong scent of a person around.

Good idea, but we have a fox (never dealt with coyotes) and he doesnt dig. Good thing, but from what I've heard, they do dig so some protection is good.

Stilll....weird ours doesn't dig....

Fox killing goats? I would think not, they don't bother my tiny sheep and lambs. Coyotes will kill them, though. Both dig and can jump, fox will climb. Add some hot wire, or put the fence on metal posts, dig in a foot of fencing and add outside fence skirt. Then make the fence 5ft high at least. Small holed fencing, 2x3in.
