Our 3 month old is on calf starter and eating free choice hay. He also has access to 7 acres of pasture since it has not been horribly cold here yet is still green and lucious.

What else should I be offering him for the best growth?

Mineral. You can feed a calf anything but he can never get enough minerals, especially micro-minerals like Iodine, Copper, Iron, Manganese, etc.

Either or. We've always fed block mineral to our stocker steers, but I've heard from a bunch of others that loose mineral is the best. Trace-mineral is best.

We have loose minerals available at all times along with salt for our bovine. Every evening after thier grain, the heiffer goes directly over to the salt. Licks that and the minerals for about 4-5 minutes. She then gets a drink. Then over to the hay. Same routine every night. The steers don't pay much attention to the minerals or salt for some reason.
