What is this? I have two pictures to show you all. Interestingly they were taken on the same day, but 1 year apart.

I asked my breeder what it was less than a month after I bought my 2 does. She said it was nothing, that she had seen it before, and that if I wanted I could lance it open. I did not lance it. This French Lop now has 2, one on each ear. The original cyst thing, the one in the pictures, is now causing the ear to dimple in on the outside of the ear.

My second doe now has one now. She came from the same breeder. My buck came from a different breeder, but the breeder I got the does from got her original stock from the bucks breeder.

The cyst things are on the inside of the ear more near the tip.

This is the picture taken a year ago.

This is todays picture. What is it and what should I do about it? Am I an idiot not to have addressed this issue earlier?

I really have no clue....BUT it looks like a sty I had on my leg once. Sorry you haven't gotten any answers.

The sty had to be lanced and drained. It was really gross.

Probably nobody has posted on it because it could be several things and there's no way to say for sure which it is. Wish there was. :/ It's probably not a tumor or cancer or anything like that, but it's a bit concerning because others have developed and the breeder seems to be familiar with them. I'd ask the breeder if they know specifically what it is. Sorry couldn't be of help.

Thanks all!

I am not gonna ask the breeder again, she was very receptive when I emailed her and asked about flea preventative when the rabbits got fleas on them . . . Texas ya know. And did answer my question about the "thing" but said she did not know what it was other than seeing it before.

One of the does I bought from her was recovering from multiple rabbit bites. I am an idiot, I know. But when that doe ALWAYS attacked the buck when I put her in his cage to TRY to breed her, then emailed the breeder and asked if the problem might be because my doe had been "attacked," she did not like the adjective I used and said she was not attacked, but was in a fight.

Live and learn. Oh wait! I am 61 . . . guess it is too late!

I guess I will have to vet her or take her to a rabbit show judge who lives a county away and see what he says. If it is something that can be contagious to other rabbits I will not be a happy camper.

The only one who can tell you for sure is a vet and he would have to be familiar with rabbits. I would worry most about a staph infection, which could be spread to others in your herd.

I have been away from the computer for a few days.

I will have to vet her, but I am almost positive it is not staph. I have seen staph present in different ways on human skin, and oddly enough, when I was gone I took my daughter's dog to the vet because he is terribly allergic to fleas. Although the fleas are under control he is sill itching and has sores all over his poor little body. The vet told me the sores were staph.

The thing in the picture on my rabbits ear is encapsulated, smooth to the touch and has no oozing, but I will ask the vet about staph.

Thanks.
