i am just starting to get my caves i have some pure bred black angus cows and some limosin cows and this year i crosed the limosin cows with the black angus bull and we had for calves two died one because it was born in 35 below weater then two more were born healthy cavles. then one of my pure bred cows had its calf in the barn and it would ent stand or suck. and it was died the next mornig does any one know what could of happend it was interbred on axcend because it was not bred by the bull it was supose to be :th :hit :th

The fact that it was inbred may have been the problem or it could have happened anyway. Sometimes there are things wrong inside that we can't see. Also, was it on time or early? We just had a set of twins only 2 weeks early but, lost one right away, she too, never got up.

The fact that you lost that one calf I agree it would've been due to inbreeding, since the breeding of a bull that is either full brother to the cow or sire to the cow (I'm guessing sire) would give some form of genetic disease or malformation inside the calf so that he won't be able to have the strength to stand and suckle, no matter if he's born early or late.

Sorry you lost them. But it's all part of raising livestock: when you got livestock you'll have deadstock.

:welcome sorry you had such hard luck with 2 calves.as said 1 was weather related.an i cant say what caused the other calfs death.

:hugs Sorry for your loss. It's always hard to lose one.

The second one just sounds like failure to thrive. It's a common problem, and it's not really preventable or treatable. Sometimes they just... Don't thrive.
